Position Description:(primary functions)
Simulation Educator for undergraduate programs to provide clinical, educational, and technical expertise of simulation-based activities in the Skills/Simulation Lab. Teaches in accordance with the schedule of classes and follows the approved course descriptions and syllabi as established by the program faculty and administration. Provides leadership and management in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the programs of study.
Minimum Requirements:
In addition to the requirements for an associate degree nursing instructor, the educator must possess the following:
- Master of Science in nursing preferably in education. The individual must have an unencumbered license to practice in the state of Mississippi and satisfies a criminal history background check.
- Must provide certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Have current clinical practice.
- Possess proficiency with basic aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair and replacement needs for all simulation equipment.
- Must have 2-3 years of experience conducting simulation scenarios including preparatory assignments, application of moulage for real life experience, how to conduct debriefing to facilitate programs and student’s learning outcomes as specified in their program of study.
- Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying objects and/or equipment to conduct simulation.
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and with different levels of training on a professional level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Abides by the policies and procedures as applicable in the CCC Policy and Procedure Manual and the CCC Faculty and Student Handbook for Health Science Programs.
- Participates with faculty in development of course objectives, course plan, and evaluation of total curriculum and revision of program policies.
- Prepares and setup skills laboratory, and simulation instruction environments.
- Plans, selects, and evaluates learning experiences in assigned clinical scenario based on individual student needs, program objectives, and program philosophy.
- Cooperates with the Program Directors in the development of the simulation scenarios aligned with the programs ‘curriculum as well as selection of resource materials and equipment, and in budget proposals.
- Communicates with appropriate personnel in planning, selecting, and evaluating student learning experiences as outlined in course specific syllabi.
- Assumes responsibility for the instruction, evaluation and supervision of students in the simulation and practice lab setting to include the following:
- Establishes rapport and accessibility with students.
- Communicates expectations for clinical preparation.
- Plans, reviews, and conducts debriefings.
- Demonstrates competency in performing clinical/professional skills and procedures.
- Coordinates work with faculty and program directors to develop simulation scenarios to enhance student’s learning, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
- Evaluates student’s skills check off, concept maps and/or other clinical assignments associated with simulation scenario.
- Enforces clinical guidelines in CCC-Health Sciences Student Handbook.
- Sets and enforces deadlines for completion of assignments.
- Actively engages students in the clinical learning process.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and organized simulation environment.
- Models best instructional evidence-based practice in the simulation/skill lab.
- Participate in preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations and scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational.
- Oversee the collection of evaluation data on learning outcomes for simulation activities and collaborate with faculty to disseminate findings.
- Assist with the development and training of faculty related to the use of simulation.
- Participates in departmental and divisional meetings.
- Participate in off campus professional development related to health science programs.
- Serves on department and campus committees as assigned.
- Communicates with Program Director and team members regarding student concerns and issues and student progress as appropriate.
- Maintains student records, clinical evaluation forms, grade reports, and rosters.
- Provides direction and support to new and adjunct faculty; serves as faculty mentor when assigned.
- Remains current in the assigned subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and/or professional development.
- Participates in campus activities and programs to include the annual pinning ceremonies and the annual Coahoma Community College Commencement Ceremony.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Dean and/or Program Directors.
